ACM CHI+GI 1987 + CHI 1991 Issue 65 - A Human Factors Guide to Computer Speech

The intrinsic properties of speech communication and the characteristics of current recognition technology pose special problems for the design of a speech interface. We are interested in understanding these problems and in identifying an interface structre that allows speech to be a useful form of computer input. The design decompoes a recognition system into functionally independent units each corresponding to a necessary function in the speech interface.
