Reclamation engineers, researchers and technicians continue to respond to the needs of people for water and power by making surveys of snowpack on watersheds, locating new dam sites, building new dams and power plants.

New sources of water and power are being explored to meet future requirements. Here, from deep within the Earth, hot geothermal brines are brought to the surface to produce both power and fresh water. Cloud seeding can increase rain and snowfall, adding to the snowpack and spring runoff to fill storage reservoirs. Future needs for water call for finding new ways to use what water is available now more efficiently, as in drip irrigation. Each plant or fruit tree gets just the water it needs, saving water which might otherwise be lost.
